Ecstatikal Dance @ Ikal
Recently, we have had the pleasure to host EcstatIkal Dance sessions more often at Ikal. There is hardly a better feeling than letting our bodies express themselves freely, flowing with every second, our hearts cracking open, beating in tempo, fully letting go of control and surrendering to the moment and the music, guided by spectacular guest artists.
Ecstatic dance is a free-form movement and type of dance, often practiced without a fixed choreography. The idea is to completely lend yourself and your body to the rhythm of the music, and to the present moment. In ecstatic dance, you move freely through space leading to a state of trance and ecstasy (hence the name ecstatic). Many dancers report that ecstatic dance brings them into a deep meditative state. There are many benefits to practicing ecstatic dance, such as increasing bliss and happiness, connecting with yourself and others, or healing trauma, old wounds, and limiting beliefs on a physical level.
On the 6th of march, we were blessed with Kompass’s guidance (Nolan Watt), a producer/DJ from northern California. His live set incorporated sounds of global bass, ethno/tribal house and world rhythms. The journey created was a sonic landscape for dancers to explore, immerse and release into deep, ecstatic inspiration. On the 13th of march, we had the privilege of being guided by Levi Banner, a sorcerer of seducing the senses with sacred and sexy shamanic-soundscape ceremonies. Levi has been living in Bali the past 8 years. Teaching Yoga, Astrology, Breathwork, and DJing dance. He’s played at festivals all around the world and is now exploring where the most resonant communities, sacred sites, and ceremony spaces are.
On our next EcstaIkal Dance session we had the honor to receive The Âlchemyst. He guided us on a journey into music alchemy, using the elements of the sound dimension to create an experience of traveling to different cultures from around the world musically. We will collectively be doing the inner work to connect with our emotions and expressing through the body what we need to release and let go of.
